Acoustic sets by local artists covering Neil Young’s music. This event, which started in 2004 and occurs on or near Neil Young’s birthday every year, emerged in artistic response to effects of rampant and unconscious development in Bend. In the way Neil Young has been a voice for many marginalized in the name of so called “progress,” Church of Neil reminds us that we still have deaf spots in our community—in areas of ecological consciousness, human rights, and social justice—and that music is a powerful platform for creative expression of what has been hidden, silenced, and repressed. Church of Neil is an embodied celebration of Mr. Young’s work—intended to inspire all who join-in. The show is open to all ages and there is a twenty-dollar suggested donation at the door to benefit participating artists and sound engineers.
